notbadg: Been a while since I come home and visit! It was since 2009, I was in Virac for about 4 days but I enjoyed it. I was watching some of the video from youtube and I miss the place again. Growing up there was a blast and realizes how simple it is back then.2 weeks 6 days ago

virac airport
Nakka homesick naman picture na to.....para tuloy gusto ko umuwi....no place like home...hu hu hu....sana makahiram kita nin eroplano ki raul para sakayan ng mga cf members pauwi......

Mahar an pamasahe
Iso daw Adin, nakaka miss ang Virac airport. Last time nag baba ako sa eroplano dyan sa Virac Airport was more than 5 years ago. Grabe man pano kamahar nin pamasahe ! Mas barato pa roundtrip airticket papunta sa Cebu, Boracay or even Hongkong. One way ticket MNL to Virac is almost the same as roundtrip ticket MNL-Legaspi-MNL.
Kaya ngani mas na miss ko ang Calolbon pier kesa sa Virac airport ta pirmi sana south road ang ruta kada bakasyon.
Sa ano daw magiging resonable an airticket MNL to Virac ?
pamasahe
round trip ticket to virac/mnla is more expensive than going to hongkong? wow i didnt know that. Ang gusto ko naman ma experience ang mag fairy boat kasi the last time na sumakay ako sa lantsa is way back 1991. Gusto ko maexperience ng anak ko mag lantsa kaya lang maiinip siguro....tsaka hirap mg biyahe ng may maliit na bata. Maganda kasi mag adventure.... sa eroplano puro ulap lang makikita mo.

budget fare
mura lang ang trip to hongkong kung masakay ka sa budget airlines or kung igua ning promo. maski papuntang KL or singapore mas mura from Clark. Yong tipo bang, wlang food served, pero puede kang magbakal ning sandwich, etc...
korek ka dyan adin, pag ga biyahe na may maliit na bata, doble ang bagahe mo, ako ka graduate ko pa lang sa pagdara ning extra towels, wipes, zip lock plastics, water para sa dede, disposable na dede, etc....napalitan naman ng gameboys (to keep them quiet), chips, biscuits and tetra juices for their bottomless stomachs...(am not complaining coz i know once they are grown ups, am going to miss them...)
pero kung pressed for time and you want to escape, have you tried bringing your kids to La Mesa Park (EcoPark)? It is about 15 min drive from Philcoa to faiview. Maraming activities para sa mga bata at batang isip..swimming, fishing (pay what u catch), boating and u can rent bicycles, etc...open cya from 6 am to 6 pm..
Mas mura
Ang two way ticket papuntang Thailand mas mura. Sa pakpak ka nga lang kakapit. Hehehe
Pwede sigurong mag-wish dyan sa fairy boat.
PIZ 2 OL!!
costly airfare
If Catanduanes has to achieve the status as tourist destination, the airfare going to and from Virac must be competitive with other tourist destination. But this is not the case at present. MNL-VRC-MNL airfare at Php6,500 is more expensive than taking low cost carrier ( LCC) flight to Palau.
Palau and Catanduanes have many things in common. They both have azure blue waters, alluring white sand beaches, great drop off dive sites, immense coral reef formation, emerald green forest, and tropical climate. What separates the two aside from the uncompetitive airfare cost, is the advance stage of tourism industry of Palau. Accommodation varies from USD40 to USD450 per day, tours are well organized and exciting and the place is generally tourist friendly.
Catanduanes has great tourism potential but needs lot more of catching up homework.
Gov. Boboy started on the right foot when he made tourism as one of the flagship of his administration. Last December 22, he disclosed that the tourism congress proposed by our very own Dave Templonuevo was considered which is due for funding and will push through. This was confirmed by PBM Roger Pereyra.
My unsolicited advise for tourism program to get a better chance of success is to use the "show case" approach instead of the broadfront strategy. "Show case" approach is to develop selected areas, and promote them in the international and local market like a branded product with good name recall. Puraran surf and Palawig beaches are areas offering good tourism potential. The provincial planners can use these two scenic spots as spearhead of tourism flagship. Very important please - NO MORE GAY FESTIVAL in the tourism program.
Show Case
JOM show case approach is well attainable as our Puraran can well compete with the best surfing places of the world. The remoteness and prestiness of our island is another added attraction. Many times i have seen foreigners with their motorcycles negotiating our dirt road going to puraran. I know they enjoy the adventure in our island as they came with their families. Father and son with dirt bikes in the mud road of Agban is a surprise scene to see and they are foreigners. With an island like Panay that hides so much beauty we can develop Panay island as another Galapagos with its wildlife good for snorkeling
and scuba dives. What about fishing for malasugi and barracuda? We knew so many foreigners who came to our island were enchanted to the natural beauty of our land and sea. JOM can be good sales manager for our island tourism promotion.
on JOM
"JOM can be good sales manager for our island tourism promotion." With Sir JOM's eloquence, I definitely agree...
on creativity and the tourism council...
i think the tourism council of catanduanes should start getting creative. i mean, they only focus their attention on the catandungan festival, which they even fail to make more exciting. frankly, if i weren't from catanduanes, i would not even think of going to the catandungan festival. on the other hand, while the gay festival may be interesting, its not really a good tourism activity...not because we're sexists in CF but because gay festivals happen in EVERY province in the country. Gays are talented but they're not all in Catanduanes...they are COMMON.
the council should learn how to effectively sell the festival and most importantly, the province...find a strength...take stock of what it already has. they should travel the whole island every month....do an immersion. we have a really BEAUTIFUL coastline...as in new zealand BEAUTIFUl when you go to Tabugok. for those of you who have no i dea where Tabugok is at the northernmost tip of catanduanes...near Pandan...and it is just BREATHTAKING. yung iniisip ko nung nagpunta ako, pwedeng mag-attract yung site na yun ng filmmakers....sayang.
a few years ago, the WOW Philippines program of the DOT created tarpaulins of tourism places all over the country. Bohol had its chocolate hills in its tarpaulin, albay had mayon volcano, davao had its fruits, aklan had the ati-atihan festival, etc. you know what the picture was for catanduanes? farmers planting rice...how exciting is that?! geez. another example, i got hold of a DOT brochure a few years ago. the brochure, of course, highlighted the different tourist spots in the country (i think per province pa ito) complete with activities and addresses of known establishments. while the brochure is one of the best things the DOT can come up with for the local tourism industry, i found just one flaw. Catanduanes was not in the list. so, what did the tourism council do? where were they? its their job to SELL the province but by not pushing for the inclusion of the province in these things, they just underscored the fact that Catandunes is not and should not be on the tourist maps of Filipinos or anybody for that matter.
i really think the tourism council should carefully evaluate themselves and look at what's happening in other provinces in the country. take a look at camsur...its now one of the hottest provinces in the country because of watersports particularly boarding. their LGU actually had the foresight to create this amazing place and turn it into a watersports enthusiast's haven. their hotel rooms are actually 3-star hotel types but were only made out of old pier containers which they refurbished and airconditioned.
my point here is, we don't need to spend so much. we just need FRESH ideas and we need everybody's OPEN MINDEDNESS. suggestions should be heeded and constructive criticisms should not be treated as insults but as a means to grow and improve. we should also set aside our pride because in the end, we will all benefit.
on airfare costs...
i totally agree. airfare costs in Catanduanes are very expensive. but i think its also because asian spirit is the only airline that includes Catanduanes in its domestic flight destinations. On top of that, Jet pa yung ginagamit nila going to Catanduanes. I really hope smaller airlines like Seair (owned by a German national) and/or Air Philippines (now owned by Lucio Tan and an affiliate of PAL) would look at the possibility of including us in their destinations. If this happens, there would be a price 'war' that could ensue which would result in lower airfare costs.
