THE POLICE. Alerted by a noise in the garden, a man looked out of his bedroom window late one night and saw a gang of thieves breaking into his shed. He immediately phoned the police who informed him that no officers were available at present.
"OK," he said, and out the phone down.

A couple of minutes later, he called the police again. "Don’t worry about sending anyone round to Woodbridge Avenue to arrest the burglars," he said. "I’ve just shot them."
