Prayer to the Virgin of Penafrancia

The feast of the Lady of Penafrancia will be celebrated on September 16, 2007. Devotees of "Ina", as we fondly called her, from all over the Philippines will again travel to Naga City to attend the fluvial procession.

To the devotees among us here on CF, here is a prayer to the Virgin of Penafrancia composed by Msgr. Florencio C. Yllana.
The Prayer:

"Turn to me thine sweet eyes, oh most loving Virgin of Penafrancia, and have mercy on my soul that comes to thee full of repentance. Protect my family, my relatives, my friends and benefactors. Intercede for your devotees, both the living and the dead, especially for those whom I am most obliged to help.
Pray for me, console me and save me. In my hours of peril, adversity and affliction, above all, in the hour of my death, appear before your divine Son to help me and defend me. Tell Him that I am your devotee, that having complete trust in your protection, I kneel before thy miraculous image to ask for your powerful intercession ( mention your petition).
Virgin of Penafrancia, pray for me, help me, console me and deliver me from all evil. Amen."

Hi mels thanks for posting the prayer. Here in dc we celebrate the feast of the virgin of penafrancia every year thru the bicol association. The feast lies on the third weekend of september too. Priests who are visiting the US esp. the bicolanos are celebrating the mass. We also go to Norfolk virginia to celebrate the feast every labor day(first weekend of sept). Bicolanos all over the US who are devoted to the virgin travel to join the fluvial and the feast all weekend long. I do enjoy going coz its fun meeting a lot of bicolanos from near and far and it surely feels like we're in bicol. The first thing they're looking for is the bicol express. Hupi pa man siyemrpe...hehehe There is also a procession on the water with the virgin. My son has an eczema since he was 7 mos. old. When i took him with me when he was 2yrs old, i touch the virgin and rub my son's body all over while i was asking her to please heal my son for he was suffering from it since he was a baby and i believe that tru her intercession my son was healed. The eczema is finally going away and he's happy and healthy.

Thank you adin for your sharing. Indeed "Ina" is a powerful intercessor. She always intercedes for those who ask in faith.

Bicolanos here in bacolod also marks her feast with a nine day novena and mass on the her feast day celebrated by a bicolano priest. After the mass, we gather together to enjoy all bicol foods prepared for the day. of course, hindi nawawala ang bicol express, laing, kinunot, kandinga, linantang pili at kuyog, etc.

Yeah, SHE is such a powerful lady who never say no to those who asks. She is a mother after all who love all her children. Accdg. to Father jojo of Albay she is the short cut to Jesus.

That's pretty much what we do here too. The only difference is that we're doing the novena every weekend from the 3rd weekend of July to the 3rd weekend of Sept. The first and the last novena is done at the church and the rest of novena in between are celebrated in different houses of a family who wants to sponsor. After each novena there is kainan. On the last novena is a big feast with lots of food and dancing.

On Sept. 22nd Cardinal Sanchez of Pandan who is recently residing in Rome will be here in dc to celebrate the Mass at the National Schrine of the Immaculate Conception. A lot of Filipinos will be gathering again esp. the bicolanos to welcome him with pride and joy. Catandunganon will be so proud to welcome him once again.

That is true adin, Ina is the shortcut to Jesus. She's always there for us, always ready to help her children who seeks her. God bless you adin for your faith.

I read about cardinal sanchez, he is the first Filipino cardinal who was appointed to a position, i can't recall now, that hold office in the Vatican. I didn't know he is a bicolano much more a catandunganon. Indeed, we should be proud to have him in our midst.

Given the honor this Catandunganon gave us I should write a full length article about Cardinal Jose T. Sanchez.

He was first appointed in Vatican as Secretary to the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples and is now currently holding an even more important position: Prefect of Congregation for the Clergy.

As a former seminarian and a practicing Catholic (i'm proud of it), I am worried when i see the word "shortcut to Jesus". The term "shortcut" has acquired many connotations and has lots of denotations that i'm scared when used to mean "through Mary to Jesus" we may end up believing in something quite different from the teaching of the church... The word is not wholly wrong though... well just a note. Of course God understands what we meant.

Why? are you not attending this year's fiesta? Inggit nga ako saiyo, ikaw twice nang naka atttend, ako hindi pa. we celebrate her feast here in bacolod with nine day novena and a mass on the feast day celebrated by a bicolano priest. I'm hoping one day maka attend din ako ng feast day nya sa Naga. regards!
