Catanduanes Forum

I am convinced that there is a bright future for this island in tourism. As a whole the Philippines is under exploited as a tourism destination and Catanduanes is no exception.
The marketing people's job is to get people here, but it is our job to make sure the tourists come back again. At the moment I don't think they will.
I see several areas where improvements should be made, but this list is not exhaustive:
Banking
Tourists need to access their funds. This will usually be done via ATMs. However the service offered by the banks here is far from reliable. Being in a foreign place with no funds is a very uncomfortable experience, especially when you are there to relax and have fun.
Hotel & Restaurants
The warmth of the Philippine smile is known around the world. But this is not enough. The service I have experienced in hotels and restaurants here (and even in Manila) has often fallen short.
Litter
First impressions mean a lot. The journey from the airport or the ferry port and later moving around the countryside the constant accompaniment is the sight of litter. This is not only anti-social but also shows a lack of education and respect for the island, the country and the globe. We must stop regarding the island and its waters as our own personal waste bin. We need to clean up our act.
Paint
The overall color of buildings on the island is grey. Lets encourage property owners to paint their homes and businesses. While about it they should trim the lengths of rusting rebar that bristle all over!!

So yes, Visit Catanduanes! but lets be ready or they will Not Come Back!!
