COAL MINING

Sweet Bikolana's picture

The area of actual mining in the zone, may be relatively small, but as the map shows rivers, run the length and breadth of the island. Any spills will certainly be transported far and wide.

Atid Atidon ta Daw

Jorge O. Macenas's picture

Pwede tabing paki color shade kun anong portion dyan an mineralized? Mas makatabang sa atong pag atid atid kun an color coding maga tau nin indikasyun kung pilang tonelada an proven mineable reserve sa kada lugar. Pilang hectarya tabi an pwedeng ma cover nin actual na mina. Paki provide tabi mga basic data para ikan basehan an atong pag atid atid, bukong puro espekulayun, haka haka, paranoia na maga MISLED asin maga INCITE sa banwaan. Dapat tabing maatid atid nin tama kun ano talaga an totoong epekto sa atong lugar kun madagos an mina dyan.

Let us make our decisions about coal mining in Catanduanes based on FACTS , not emotions, not paranoia, not cynism, not sloganeeering, not propaganda, not parallelism. If the FACTS points to be more detrimental than beneficial, You and me (WE) can work together to oppose the coal project.

By the way, the concession area is less than 5 linear kilometer from our house in Viga.

ISLA CATANDUNGAN

SIR JOM,

With regards to your message above, I am wishing that everybody will agree & shout this words "NO TO MINING IN CATANDUANES" this is the FACT. We should think the effect in our Mother of Nature.

ITS A CAMPAIGN SLOGAN NOT A FACT

Jorge O. Macenas's picture

NO TO MINING IN CATANDUANES is a slogan not a fact.

Too much hysteria has been generated by coal mining because of lack of FACTS. The Bato river quarry has been operating for decades benefitting number of aggregate customers, but do you think it has been detrimental than beneficial?

ITS A CAMPAIGN SLOGAN NOT A FACT

Lovely_Sophie's picture

Ang pinag usapan tungkol sa mining ,napunta ang topic sa quarry sa Bato . Huwag po nyo ibahin ang topic , Hinde naman bobo ang mga members ng CF para lituhin . "HELLO, HELLO HELLO

HELLO HELLO

Jorge O. Macenas's picture

For your information tabi, quarrying is the first phase of actual mining operation. Yong nasa Bato river tabi, tawag dyan aggregate mining using open cast stripping method.

I'm not sure whom you are referring to as "bobo" among the members of CF.

QUARRYING

amore's picture

Quarrying is a huge detrimental than beneficial to society why?

DETRIMENTAL - "How can anybody walk into a region and say 'Well we're going to take 50 per cent of your rocks' when they don't even know what the structure of the economic stability of that area is?" "It also will impact on the barangay communities, and given that taking a valuable resource out of that community, that will have a detrimental impact."

Quarrying in Bato Encouraged

man-uukag's picture

Quarrying in Bato river bed is highly encouraged because of the danger floods pose to the community in its vicinity. There should be no comparison between the two since procedures in aggregate extraction is very different from the mineral extraction.

HABAAN TABI ANG PAG-IISIP...!

amore's picture

wag po sana tayo "PILOSOPO" “NO TO MINING” IS A SLOGAN CAMPAIGN YES I AGREE PERO PAG ISA ISIP “ITO’Y ISANG REMINDER NA SANA WAG NATING GAWIN ANG MINING SA CATANDUANES” THEN IT GOES NA THIS IS THE FACT ISA-PUSO NATIN NA WAG HAYAAN NA MAG MINING SA ISLA CATANDUANES!!!!!!!!

I agreed with Sweet Bikolana, If you want FACTS, there have been plenty of examples posted here in links and quotes.

QUARRYING

Sweet Bikolana's picture

No body is campaigning "NO TO QUARRYING"
Sweet Bikolana

QUARRYING is the extraction

Jorge O. Macenas's picture

QUARRYING is the extraction phase of mining. The river quarry in Bato river is part of Aggregate Mining where there are crushing phase, classifying phase and stockpiling.

QUARRYING

Sweet Bikolana's picture

... and no one is complaining about quarrying in Bato or anywhere else on the island as far as we know. If someone did an in depth study of the effects of quarrying in Bato, they may come up with some harmful facts about the activity there. But it seems to be a reasonably benign process and one that people can live with.
There are distinct comparisons to be made, between extracting rock for use in construction for the the people of the island and the extraction and subsequent export of coal for use elsewhere.
If you want FACTS, there have been plenty of examples posted here in links and quotes. The FACT is that 91% of members do not want mining on the island. These people have not been incited or coerced. We do not know how the rest of the islanders feel, but as you say in your slogan - people have a right to be informed. There are plenty of FACTS available to the anti mining lobby; you have been able to produce nothing to further your side of the argument.
Proponents of coal mining are like drug pushers. They want to keep their customers hooked on the product. Catanduanes should take a stand and just say "No".
One in six light bulbs in the Philippines is powered by geothermal energy. The Philippines is the second largest user of this type of source. This is terrific and shows that there is another way. We just need to think 'out of the box' and not be dragged down a path we don't want to go.
Catanduanes should not take the risk of coal mining on the island. The FACTS are that it is a bad risk. I don't think you are able to counter the argument, or you would have done so by now.

Sweet Bikolana

river quarrying asin ang coal mining
