PREACHING TO THE CONVERTED

When I was growing up on the island (many years ago), I remember there only being Roman Catholic and Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) churches. Now the situation is quite different.
I trip over Buddhists, Mormons, Evangelists, Baptists, Protestants Jehovah Witnesses, Praise the Lord, Born Again Christians, Adventists and I don't know what else all of the time.
Buddhists apart, I cannot understand the other denominations rationale for coming here. What were the thought processes? Catanduanes is an island deeply steeped in Roman Catholicism, where the people would appear to be devout. Generally then, souls would appear to be safe. Why then come here to give the message of the same God to people that already know and love Him? Are they suggesting that the Roman Catholic Church does not save souls? If not, what is their reason for being here? Would not their efforts be better directed in a part of the world where the people do not know the Lord?

I ask this question in good faith. My husband and I are both Christians - he is of the Protestant persuasion and I am RC. We are tolerant of each other's beliefs and of others. However why do other denominations come here, preaching to the converted?

Perhaps for practical reasons. One religion may provide more assistance to the needy. Some people don't want to recite a bunch of rules, and may feel more comfortable with the Quakers than the "fire and brimstone". Nothing wrong with "religion hopping." It's better to check things out. Many people do not wish to lock into a set way of thinking.

Ipaliwanag ko isa-isa. Tayo isinilang na di alam kung ano ang relihiyon na kinabibilangan ng mga magulang natin. Kung ano ang nakamulatan at nakagisnan natin yun ang ating sinusunod. Kung malaki ka na at me sapat na pag iisip don ka malayang makapamili kung saan ka dapat umanib base sayong paniniwala. Sa Pilipinas malaya kang makapamili kung saan ka talaga. Patuloy kang maghahanap hanggang hindi mo nasusumpungan ang talagang bagay para sayo. Para sa akin kahit ano pa mang relihiyon ka mapunta iisa lang ang Panginoon na ating sinasamba paluhod man patuwad o kahit ano pa as long as how you praise him. Iba iba man ang tawag sa kanya sa kadahilanang marami tayong salita sa ibabaw ng mundo.

I guess the answer to your question - why there are a lot of religions coming and preaching their own doctrine, lies on the bible. Same as what happened during the times of Jesus Christ. Why do you think He bothered to come here on earth and share the words of God - the same God that Isralites are worshipping and believing. Jesus Christ taught about the God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Moises. It is because though they believe in the same God and though they know who He is, there are some teachings which were apart from what is stated in the bible (every religion has its own doctrine). Jesus Christ came to enlighten the Isralites about their wrong teachings and beliefs and also to clarify what God the father really wants and to mold their faith. We will not be saved thru our religions it is only through faith and God's grace.
