Bicol Regional Autonomy.

Catanduanes will be hosting a Bicol Regional Autonomy Forum at the Catanduanes Colleges this afternoon, July 2, 2009, 2:00 P.M. Among the keynote speakers will be Dr. Jose V. Abueva - Professor Emeritus of Political Science and Public Administration, and former President of the University of the Philippines - now the Chairman of the Citizens’ Movement for a Federal Philippines (CMFP) Advisory Board, Mr. Dante Jimenes - Chairman of the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC), and other distinguished guest from the province and the rest of Bicol Region.

Albay is known for its Power Industry with its Tiwi Geothermal Power Plant and the Bacon-Manito Geothermal Power Plant. Camarines Sur is known as the Rice Granary of Bicol. Masbate is known for its Cattle Industry and Gold Mining. And Sorsogon has its Fishing industry aside from its vast potential in agriculture.

What do we have in Catanduanes? Can our abaca industry sustain the fiscal needs of our local governments? Are we ready to sacrifice our remaining biodiversity to be competitive and be at par (economically speaking) with our neighboring provinces?

it will ultimately boils down to cha-cha. isa san mga ipinapanukso ng con-assers ay ang pangakong pederalismo sa mga rehiyon, at dahil extremely regionalistic naman ang mga pinoy madami dami ang kumakagat. mind you pipol, individuals behind this are the same people who are adherents of the defeated PIRMA aiming to extend tabako ramos' rule and the movers of the infamous People's Initiatine kuno botched by no other than the supreme court. Federalism as a system is good only if the country as a whole is emancipated from extreme poverty and backwardness, eh ngayon pa nga lamang na kuntrolado na tayo ng 200 landed families di na tayo mag kanda ugaga pano pa kung epepederalisa, lalong mag papangyari ang warlordism at monopoly of power.

I think the proponents of this should review first the outcome of the Cordillera Autonomous Region as well as the ARMM and learn from it.

Producing bio fuel from coconut.

I wonder whether it would be possible for Catanduanes to diversify into the dairy industry.

Mozzarella cheese is made from the milk of Buffalo and there seems to be no shortage of the creatures here. I would welcome the opportunity (and feel a sense of pride) to buy local freshly produced cheese here rather than the processed variety.

More important than the forum speakers is the Mission and Vision of Bicol Regional Autonomy (BRA). What is in it for the people of Bicolandia? Is there a workable roadmap to achieve and deliver the mission and visions of BRA?
Otherwise, the BRA will be another ambitious grand plan commencing with a huge blast and ending in a whisper and just fade away.
