If a society's government is a reflection of the people that voted that government in then Pinoys are stupid, corrupt, backwards, and/or oblivious.
If this IS NOT true then why can't the mass of Filipinos follow even basic civics/elections tips like those mentioned on http://www.dailyrandomsites.com/filipinos-should-not-vote or http://www.votesmart.org/ ?
I'm not bashing Filipinos since I know many of us are intelligent and rational and many make responsible decisions. But why doesn't our elected government reflect these traits?
If you are going to claim that "we need more voter" education, I can only ask: who is going to do it? who is going to pay for it? will it be free from bias/ulterior motives?
we deserve the govt we elect
we're too stupid to vote? ain't that grand.
i think many of our kababayans do not exercise their right of suffrage as well as "most" people do because many of us are hard up and need cash not to live but to survive. many people, especially in the rural areas do not have a source of livelihood that can support their basic needs and so if this so and so politician gives them P500, its Christmas. atleast for one day in one year, they get something to really fill their bellies with.
some Filipinos, on the other hand, are just plain greedy. they just want to enrich themselves and will do anything and everything to get the results they want. they can lie, cheat, or steal just to get their precious pesos (which, as we all know, they can't take to their grave).
ultimately, its a vicious cycle. we deserve the services we get and the government we elect because of our personal circumstances. it sucks. the only way we can change things is if people who actually knew what government is all about will step up and run and get the support of the majority. the problem in the Philippines is, the best leaders and the best lawmakers are the ones who shy away from politics and refuse to get involved in the mess. afterall, who would want to end like another Gov. Ed Panlilio of Pampanga?
RUBBISH
I read the list of DO NOT in the article Filipinos should not vote. Well, I find the author stupid for acting to be smarter than majority of Filipino voters.
Rubbish!!
The articles is full of DO NOT but not clear on the DOs.
Enough of you telling us what TO DO and what NOT TO DO. We, Filipinos voted according to our standards, belief and principle not because somebody told us what NOT TO DO or WHAT TO DO.
Corruption? Yes, we could not deny corruption and I agree something must be done about it. But to label Filipinos as corrupt, backward, and stupid is complete arrogance! Tonto!
What do you think is more corrupt than a state governor in USA selling a vacated Senate position? A Wall Street honcho running away with more than $50billion of investors’ money? Auto executives begging for bailout yet flying in private executive jets?
What is more backward than a country adulterating milk products with melamine? A culture treating women as nothing but sex object? Belief in killing in the name of their god? Segregation because of color or religion?
Stupid because we voted for movie stars? What do you think about Californians having an actor con body builder as state governor of California, a state in bankruptcy? What do you think of Americans who sent a second rate movie actor cowboy, a peanut man, a monica cigar puffer and a blabber into White house?
ENOUGH OF FILIPINO BASHING.
OMG, you really laid it
OMG, you really laid it out!
easy, Jorge, easy.
