MANILA, Philippines—International outrage over the arrest, detention and torture of the “Morong 43” is growing.

A Methodist delegation, led by Rev. Sandra Richards, said her congregation in the United States had expressed concern over the detention of the 43 health workers who were arrested on Feb. 6 in Morong, Rizal, on suspicion that they were communist rebels.

More than 200 overseas Filipino workers (OFW) in Saudi Arabia have stopped working since Saturday in protest of alleged unfair labor practices of their employer.

In a statement, migrant workers’ rights group Migrante-Middle East said the workers, composed mainly of engineers, supervisors and construction workers, have decided to stop working after their company, Al Arab Contracting Company Ltd., paid no heed to their complaints.

VIRAC, Catanduanes – Suspected members of the New People’s Army shot to death a militiaman in his own residence Monday in Pandan town, some 95 kilometers from here, an Army official said Tuesday morning.

The victim was identified as Emer Eusebio, a member of the Civilian Active Auxiliary of the 22nd Infantry Batallion, 9th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army, assigned at its detachment in Barangay Purot in the same town.
