To Marry or Not to Marry?- My two cents on PNoy's possible presidential wedding

Of course the responsibilities of the Office of the President should never be a stumbling block to consummate a legitimate love affair. Nor a legitimate Presidential love affair could be deemed a threat to national security or a public nuisance subject to summary abatement. While PNoy might be the youngest person to occupy the Philippine presidency, his age is obviously not the best number to delay what needs to be done. If indeed it is love that binds them together, then there is no reason to make the Presidency as an excuse to delay its consummation.

The End...almost

Imagine our daily lives without the annoying jingles competing in the airwaves with tunes mimicking songs that once upon a time appealed to our souls. Imagine our lives sans the tragedy and the drama that consumed our thoughts for the past few months, and the expose's that put to shame the greatest stories ever told.

A Legal Nightmare

On the very probable victory of Noynoy Aquino in the recently concluded presidential election, an issue regarding taking his oath of office arose.

In keeping with his pre-election pronouncement that Gloria Arroyo should not appoint a Chief Justice at the eleventh hour, Aquino indicated his unwillingness to take his oath of office as President of the Republic before the apparent Chief Justice to be Reynato Corona.

On Gibo's Galing at Talino

At the outset, I must say that I support Aquino in his quest. However, this analysis is my honest attempt to discover for myself the truth behind Teodoro's 'galing at talino'.

Hearing retorts from Teodoro’s supporters ascribing to him greatest intellect, and branding him as the only presidential aspirant who has the brain and experience worthy of being elected president of this God forsaken country evokes some curiosity on my part to discover the truthfulness of the claim.

Ok, I couldn’t resist this scoop as a journalist.

But I’ve hesitated to write this for days because I did not want to be labeled a Noynoy supporter.

It pains me as a foreign correspondent, who has been trying to keep an open and dispassionate mind about the presidential candidates, to be branded as rooting for this one or that one.

MOTHERS

WITH MOTHER’S DAY FAST APPROACHING (ON May 9, a sad post-1986 deviation from the Filipino tradition of observing it in December), it may be coincidence or political cunning in certain quarters to have the mothers
of presidential candidates in the news.

WHO WILL JUDGE THE JUDGES?

ELECTION, by any other name, is a judgment day.

Behind the rhetoric, beyond the smokescreen, the tragedy and the drama that consumed our thoughts for the past few months, and the Vaudeville that put to shame the greatest stories ever told, everything boils down to YOU and that piece of paper called "ballot" comes May 10.

Senator Mirriam Defensor Santiago's Humor

Here is one from Senator Santiago's. An amazing lady, still the best performing (read: bills authored and passed into law) legislator and stateswoman of our times.

She deserves another shot at the Senate.

In 1991, Movement for Responsible Public Service Youth Organization for Unity, Truth, and Honesty (MOVERS-YOUTH) compiled my witticisms and published the Miriam Defensor Santiago Dictionary.

Here are a few of the things I said over the past decade.

Defending Villar....

Gilbert Remulla, Peter Alan Cayetano, Adel Tamano...

These three are the most vocal defenders of Villar, and are in fact, spokespersons for the man.

In trying to discredit the capability of Noynoy Aquino, they parrot, almost always, that Noynoy is nothing but for his surname. That without Aquino in his name, Noynoy is just another tom dick or harry who is incapable of becoming President of this country.

Should the people vote for these politicians?

This is an interesting story.

Any of the named politicians familiar to anyone?

It seems that the present Mayor of my town was among those who paid a "permit to win fee" last May 2007 elections? Hmmm...interesting.

Here is the story:

Buying out fellow candidates...take two!

A few weeks ago, Former President Erap revealed that another presidential candidate thru emissaries approached him and requested him to withdraw from the race on the promise that all his expenses will be reimbursed.

Today, Senator Gordon revealed that this same presidential candidate requested him to withdraw from the race with a promise to reimburse all his expenses plus a slot in his cabinet if he wins.

Compromises...

The Magdalo Group is now supporting the candidacy of Senator Villar.

In exchange for Magdalo's support, Senator Villar agreed to the following three conditions set by Magdalo Group:

* He will not enter into an alliance with President Arroyo.
* He will pursue the Magdalo advocacy on poverty alleviation, anti-corruption, peace in Mindanao, and reform and modernization of the Armed Forces.
* He will allow other detained Magdalo members to serve in government.

I have no problem with condition No. 2.

Political Religions? or Religious Politics?

The Separation of Church and State is one of the more well-guarded provisions of the Philippine Constitution, in reaction to the evils experienced during the era of a state-imposed religion. This policy of separation of church and state is reinforced by the fundamental freedom of religion and free exercise thereof, which, again is one of the jewels of the citizens’ bill of rights.
