A US national medical institution said on Monday that stricter rules prove effective in preventing kids from spending too much time on TV.
Limiting TV time is important, because watching too much TV or spending too much time on the computer or playing video games raises health risks, the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion said.
The health risks include obesity, alcohol abuse, early sexual practice, negative body concept, eating disorders, aggressive behavior and doing poorly in school, the center said.

The doctor will then make a preliminary diagnosis over the phone and depending on the severity of the case, either recommend simple treatment or treatment at a public hospital.
"During working hours, all departments, including the laboratory, at the clinics will be available for patients," said Han Xiaofang, director of the Beijing medical reform office.
"We believe that people will get medical help more quickly in the future."
Smokers who have higher levels of vitamin B6 and certain essential proteins in their blood have a lower risk of getting lung cancer than those deficient in these nutrients, according to a study by cancer specialists.
Scientists at the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) said that although they had not found a causal link, the results may be a clue as to why some smokers never get lung cancer and some non-smokers or former smokers do.
