MANILA, Philippines—Talk of the Town is running the stand of presidential candidates on a number of issues, starting with the country’s fast-growing population, now estimated at more than 92 million.
We asked the candidates the following questions:
* Under your administration, what would be your population policy?
* Are you in favor of artificial family planning methods like pills, condoms and IUDs?
* Do you support proposals to teach sex education in all schools, public and private, starting Grade 5?

Mr. President:
I stand before the Senate and the People of the Philippines in defense of my name, my honor, and dignity against my accusers in the so-called C5 controversy. To set the records straight and to prove to everybody na hindi ako duwag at hindi ako sinungaling. Wala pong duwag na taga-Tondo.

VIRAC, Catanduanes – Suspected members of the New People’s Army shot to death a militiaman in his own residence Monday in Pandan town, some 95 kilometers from here, an Army official said Tuesday morning.
The victim was identified as Emer Eusebio, a member of the Civilian Active Auxiliary of the 22nd Infantry Batallion, 9th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army, assigned at its detachment in Barangay Purot in the same town.
A reaction to the article of abs-cbn news online entitled: Teodoro, Villar take softer stance on Arroyo.

Gibo and Villar are on the same boat. Si Gibo ang legitimate candidate at si Villar ang illegitimate candidate ni GMA. GMA is more in favor of Villar but the latter refused to shed his cover of being an 'opposition'. He wants on both sides, whereever the wind 'blows' stronger. Gibo is the candidate of GMA party because it has no other choice, the party has to survive May 2010 election.

We are forever grateful for your support, and honored that you have placed your faith in our brother. We write to thank you, and to let you know we have similar faith in you.
As you might already know, this is a people's campaign. We do not have the same machinery or funds that the other candidates have. But we have you: a force stronger than money or political power. Thank you for believing in our cause, and taking this small step forward with us.

Interesting moral perspective from the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines. They say it is morally unacceptable for anyone to support modern family planning in general and the Reproductive Health Bill in particular. They feel so strongly about this that they have even issued voting guidelines for the faithful. They discourage the Catholic flock from voting for anyone who supports reproductive health.

Manny Villar is on a roll. The latest survey conducted by Social Weather Stations (SWS) shows that he has narrowed the gap between him and Noynoy Aquino, the frontrunner, to 11%. The survey came in the wake of a media blitzkrieg during the holiday season.
A friend of mine, an executive in a major television network, conservatively estimates that Villar has spent P2 billion since the third quarter of 2009 for his media campaign. (Other estimates are on the high side, ranging between P3 billion and P4 billion.)
First of all, I suppose congratulations are in order.
You are one hel* of a salesman, good sir, and anyone who would dare claim otherwise is a liar.
Your approach to this electoral campaign is textbook branding. Every single commercial and television appearance of yours promotes only one message repeatedly:
I was poor, hence I understand the poor.
Never mind that you now have more than 15 subdivisions and a freaking highway.
Never mind that you haven’t been to Moriones in years, except perhaps to shoot one of those scenes in your commercial.

E, ang indibidwal, ano kaya ang gustong maging?
Ano pa, e di maging perpekto.
Perpekto, tama. Perpekto.

The last reputable surveys done after the filing of certificates of candidacy show three presidential candidates at the top: Noynoy Aquino in the mid to high forties, Manny Villar and Erap Estrada in a virtual tie at 20 or 19 percentage points. And Gilbert Teodoro, the man anointed by the once humongous Partido Lakas-Kampi founded by Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, incumbent and long-staying president of the benighted republic, at low single-digit numbers. The rest are also-rans, at 1 percentage point or even lower.

MANNY VILLAR HAD SOME INTERESTING things to say last week at the Manila Overseas Press Club. “I’m not perfect. But when you look at me, you are looking at Manny Villar, what you see is what you get. You’re not looking at my mother, my father or the tycoon behind me.”

During a four-hour conversation that began in Taipei and continued aboard the flight to Manila, where he met his death, Benigno Aquino discussed his hopes and fears with TIME Correspondent Sandra Burton. Excerpts:
ni Pte Lacaba
Mabuhay ka, kaibigan!
Mabuhay ka!
Iyan ang una’t huli kong
Tagubilin at habilin:
