The latest significant political event is the decision of leftist lawmakers Satur Ocampo and Liza Maza to go mainstream by joining an established party in their historic run for the Senate, after serving three terms in the House as party-list representatives.
Of secondary importance is the decision of the Liberal Party of Noynoy Aquino not to take in the two, allegedly because of the demands made by various leftist groups to distribute the land on which the Aquino family’s Hacienda Luisita stands to the farmers who work its fields.

MANILA, Philippines—The military points to some of the detained health workers raising clenched fists as proof that it rounded up anti-government activists. But this is a country that has decriminalized belonging to the Communist Party of the Philippines and what’s more, all the military has done is make allegations about the political orientation of its detainees.

The medical situation in the countryside might suffer a bleak future as the arrest of 43 health workers in Morong, Rizal early this month may discourage future medical practitioners from going to doctor-less areas, the medical community said Monday.

Stop the privatization of the PHO!
February 18,2009
I was horrified after reading this paper’s banner story last week titled:" Operation of EBMC as for-profit hospital seen". It seems that some "business-minded" individuals are out to put another heavy burden on our kababayans.
Privatization: killing us softly.

Kabataan Partylist Representative
There are ‘good’ and ‘bad’ leftists. ‘Good’ leftists must belong to a partylist group. They demand the inclusion of civil society groups in government transactions. They participate in tripartite meetings, they attend UN conferences, they hate Joma Sison, and they endorse the candidacies of Noynoy Aquino and Mar Roxas.

Now is the time of great challenges. Elections have come and gone. But the people’s aspirations remain unrealized: we are still a country of deep poverty and exploitation.
We remain victims of a rotten system lorded over by exploitative local and foreign elites. But there is hope; it is in us, the people. It is in our unity and collective action. It is in our strength and determination to overcome obstacles.
The following is a joint statement issued in a press conference this morning by senatorial candidates Satur Ocampo and Liza Maza of the Makabayang Koalisyon ng Mamamayan:
This morning, we would like to announce our decision to join the senatorial ticket of the Nacionalista Party as adopted candidates for the 2010 elections. We likewise announce our support to Senators Manny Villar and Loren Legarda in their respective quests for the presidency and vice presidency.
I am for Brother EDDIE!
I am for Diyos at Bayan!
We are the salt and light of this earth, lets win back politics!

This should cause the alarm of catanduanganons not just people from bagamonoc. Reports from our "partedaryos" said that a chinese firm is setting up a mining processing plant in bagamanoc, its goal is to mine the sand which according to them is rich in coal, a cheap source of power.
