“Patriotic and Progressive”

The Communist Party of the Philippines has issued a statement hailing Nacionalista Party standard bearer Manny Villar as the most “patriotic and progressive” among the presidential candidates in the coming 2010 elections.

LUCENA CITY, Philippines—The Communist Party of the Philippines says Sen. Manny Villar appears to be the more “patriotic and progressive” among the four major presidential candidates but is not certain whether the Nacionalista Party standard bearer would in fact turn out to be better than his rivals.

“Former Senate President Villar seems to be the most patriotic and progressive insofar as he advocates the interests of Filipino businessmen, expresses sympathy for the workers and peasants and condemns human rights violations,” the party’s Central Committee said in a statement.

What I find amusing is that the CPP is hailing the same person who also has the dictator’s son Ferdinand Marcos Jr., as a senatorial candidate running alongside Makabayan’s Satur Ocampo and Liza Maza. Its very hard to reconcile how the Communists came to agree that their candidates will be running with a man whose father caused the arrest and imprisonment of militant personalities during Martial Law.

I expect that the CPP, being the frontliner of fighting for the rights of marginalized sectors of our society, could have more exacting and stringent criteria in choosing who is patriotic and progressive and who is not.

The CPP pronouncement is a big disappointment.

Anyway, here is the link of a video clip about the “patriotic and progressive” candidate’s statement daring Ted Failon to investigate whether the Daang Hari road was constructed in a manner that will benefit his properties and subdivisions where the road traversed.

I guarantee that the video, makes one’s blood pressure rise up.
