Hi all.

February 13, is the 7th year anniversary of the Overseas Absentee Voting Law, which took Congress 16 years to pass. The law gave back to migrant filipinos the right to vote in Philippine national elections even as they remain abroad. A total of 589,830 filipinos overseas will participate in the 2010 elections. Let us continue to broaden and expand the political spaces of filipinos overseas in the country and abroad. Happily, this historic day did not go unnoticed.

Today, February 12, the philippine migration research network organized a book launch and round table discusssion on state politics and nationalism beyond border: changing dynamics in filipino overseas migration. CMA counsel Atty. Henry Rojas was one of the speakers of the rtd. He also contributed an article entitled Overseas Absentee Voting in the Philippines: A Comparison of the 2004 and 2007 Elections in the new pmrn publication.

To further commemorate the OAV anniversary, CMA will be hopping the radio programs tomorrow: Irynn will be joining the maritime radio program of Leo Santiago; Henry, who was also interviewed today in Bantay OCW over DZXL, will again be interviewed by Elvie Catacutan over DZRM at 4pm (which will be replayed over DZRB at 8pm) and I will be joining ms Liz Abanto in her radio program Walang Kukurap over DZRH at 2pm..... sana po makinig kayo? :))

On monday, we will go to POEA to kick off the OAV Voter Education Campaign at the Balik Mangggagawa Processing Center where we will have the chance to speak with returned and vacationing ofws and remind them of the approaching voting period. for those who signed up as volunteers, please join us at POEA Balik Manggawa on monday at 9am.

May we also invite you to join us in facebook. our fb account is pinoy abroad bumoto tayo. This is dedicated to issues and concerns on overseas absentee voting 2010.

Salamat.
