A live-in partner of deputy national security adviser Luis "Chavit" Singson on Wednesday asked a Quezon City court to prohibit the former Ilocos Sur governor from getting near her after allegedly being subjected to physical abuse.
The complainant — whose name was withheld by the Quezon City Regional Trial Court — asked the court to issue a temporary protection order, which would prevent Singson from going near the woman within a kilometer distance. Her petition was docketed as Case Q-09-65533.
Court personnel, who asked not to be named because they were not authorized to speak, refused to give further details on the case against Singson. They said the complainant is now in a "safe house."
Earlier in the day, Singson admitted in an interview on dzBB radio that he beat the woman last week after he caught her cheating on him.
Singson said when he learned what her live-in partner was doing, he decided to confirm the matter himself. He said he pretended that he was going to his hometown, Vigan, Ilocos Sur but actually set forth to monitor his partner’s whereabouts.
“Alam ko nang may gagawing mali, pumunta sa apartment namin, dinala ‘yung lalaki. Sumakay pa sa kotse. So sinundan ko, pinahuli ko at ayun, pareho ko silang sinaktan," Singson said in the radio interview.
(I already knew she was going to do something. So when I was away, she went to our apartment with her man, who was even riding our car. I followed them and had them held. It was then that I started beating them both.)
No regrets
Singson said he was not worried about the looming court investigation on his beating of the woman.
"Okay lang sa akin. 'Di ako nagsisisi sa ginawa ko. Nagsisinungaling sila pareho (It’s okay with me. I do not regret what I did because they were both lying to me)," Singson also said on radio.
He added that the woman and her alleged paramour should be thankful that he spared their lives despite what they did.
“Swerte sila at nakakapag-isip pa ako. Kung nasaktan man sila, nararapat lamang dahil nanloloko sila (They are lucky that at that time, I can still think straight. If ever they got hurt, they deserve it because they were cheating)," he said.

Singson is reputed to be one of the country’s most powerful politicians. His testimony against former President Joseph Estrada’s supposed illegal gambling activities led to his former friend’s downfall and subsequent conviction in a plunder case filed by the Ombudsman.
President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, however, granted Estrada full pardon soon after the Sandiganbayan sentenced him to imprisonment in late 2007.
