CREST hopes that the activity will help to promote tourism in Catanduanes by featuring the province’s natural wonders.
“This is only the beginning and we are optimistic that this event will set off more activities of similar nature and inculcate among the people the need to preserve our natural resources,” Beo added.
Interested individuals may contact either Beo at the Provincial Disaster Management Office, Capitol compound; Christopher D. Marasigan at the Provincial Assessor’s Office; or Boy Duran at CP No. 0915-898-1216. The registration fee is Php1,000 inclusive of meals and snacks for the whole duration of the activity.

Catanduanes Rescue initiates outdoor adventure event

This is a great initiative and I hope it will be successful in helping to put Catanduanes on the tourism map. There is a very long way to go, but its a step in the right direction. I think activity for leisure is where Catanduanes' future lies. Yes we have the white sandy beaches, bordered by coconut laden palms and warm clear seas, but we can also offer much more to those that do not want to simply lie on a beach.
The lack of sophisticated substance or even evidence of a thin veneer on Catanduanes may be part of the island's charm that will draw a particular type of tourist to these shores, at the beginning. However, successful tourism will bring changes. Most will be for the good in the form of greater wealth and investment. But careful management in the future will be needed to ensure the industry stays within bounds and does not spoil this particular rough cut jewel of the Philippines. I sincerely hope it is a challenge with which we will have to wrestle in the future, for it will be a measure of our success.
I congratulate CREST on their motivation and wish it well in this venture.
