Catanduanes State Colleges, as the biggest institution offering higher level of education in Catanduanes has been producing nearly 100 nursing graduates every year. Have you ever wondered how these graduates find job despite limited number of Hospitals in our country.

According Philippine Nurses Association, an Accredited Philippine Organization, our country have 187000 unemployed nurses. After the board exams of July 3-4, 2010, wherein 92000 nursing grads have taken, 35000 according to statistics will surely pass, and again additional to unemployed nurses.

It is really saddening to think that the government has not even made an appropriate action regarding this matter. I think, this is one of their plans, to send out as many nurses as possible for greater dollar remittances. The government has invested on us indirectly through our parents countless sacrifices, sending us to college and spending a lot just to finish nursing.

Now, many nurses are unemployed or underemployed. Nurses of today are call center agents, attending to clients needs over the phone, not at bedside.

I applied for a call center job in Manila, and I noticed, majority of applicants were licensed nurses. And they remarked, they have been working as CSR for quite a long time. There is no life in nursing profession in the Philippines, nursing has evolved, they added.

Though it is in contrary to what we had solemnly pledged during our capping ceremony in third year, one may not be blamed for not pursuing the profession. The Philippines does not give importance to Filipino nurses. I mean, hospitals are limited though health needs are high. Nurses number is high but benefits float.
