BEING AN EFFECTIVE LEADER

The key of becoming an effective leader is not to focus on making other people follow but on making yourself the kind of person they want to follow. You must become someone others can trust to take them where they want to go.

Guidelines on How to Become an Effective Leader

1. Leaders should not be egoistic.
- The truly great leaders are not in leadership for personal gain, they lead in order to serve
other people.

2. We must become good followers first.
- Rare is an effective leader who did not learn how to become a good follower first.

3. We must build positive relationships.
- Leadership is nothing more, nothing less. It is by nature relational. Today's generation of
leaders seem particularly aware of this because title and position mean so little to them.

4. We must work with excellence.
- No one respects and follow mediocre.

5. Rely on discipline, not emotion.
- Leadership is often easy during during good times. During every season of life, leaders face
crucial moments where they must choose between gearing up or giving up.

We can find leadership in every action and task that we do in our lives. Leadership springs from each one of us and is an ongoing process for every person. The difference though, would be in how each of us leads whether well or poorly.
