Another TYPHOON in 3 DAYS! (from Julius & Christine Babao)

Sept 26, 2009 Wrath of Typhoon ONDOY .

The RAINFALL we experienced in 6 hrs was equivalent to 30 days of rainfall. This broke the record rainfall dated 1967 .

Thousands of people homeless. Helpless, Desperate, Angry, In denial. Shocked.

People could not be saved all at the same time for lack of govt resources , manpower and sheer danger in the rescue efforts. Hence, the delay in the rescue.

This is nature’s wrath and man’s folly put together.

Now dat Peping is 3 days away & we dont know and cant tell for sure just how strong it will be this time, if u live in low lying areas or know pipol who do, some tips for disaster & calamity preparedness for the whole family :

1) LGUs & homeowners associations must quickly invest in rubber/motor boats- for quick response & immediate evacuation of residents in subdivisions. Unless we can all afford AGAIN to wait for help.

2) If possible, have presence of mind: DO NOT panic. EACH able membr of d family mst have his/her own bag with the essentials: H20. food. Clothes.blanket, raincoat, medicines, first –aid kit, flashlight, a whistle, milk, diaper etc. according to one’s most urgent needs. The backpack must contain emergency goods, good for at least 48hrs. MAKE SURE BAGS ARE WATERPROOF or - items wrapped in thick plastic bags for added protection.

3) Bring fully charged phones and extra batteries if possible- you need these when you have to climb on top of your roof again.

4) Bring a small radio with extra batteries to be informed. Bring a list of all important telephone numbers to call in times of emergency or store these numbers in ur celphone.

5) Wag magpakasiguro – use your instinct – lumikas na agad kaysa maiipit at matrap ulit.

Because – ONDOY will happen again … and u will never know when help & rescue will come. Self preservation is a must !

Pls feel free to add to this list of must haves and must -dos for typhoon preparedness.

Pls spread the word.

May God help and protect us all and our loved ones from the next typhoon.

MANILA -- The massive tropical storm Ketsana, locally known as "Ondoy" has continued a wake of destruction in the Philippines. News reports today states that it has continued to move farther away from the country affecting many parts of Metro Manila and various provinces such as Marikina, Rizal, and Bulacan. Ondoy left about 106 dead and missing.

The storm brought about the worst flooding in the Philippine capital in 42 years and many villagers managed to only save the clothes on their backs. Rescuers reported pulling dead bodies from muddy flood waters as clean up efforts began. A brief ray of sunshine shown over the destroyed homes, overturned vehicles, and confused residents in Manila.
Ondoy is forecast to be at 880 kilometers west of Iba, Zambales by Monday evening.

Ang Kalakhang Maynila ay makakaranas ng maulap na kalangitan na may pag-ulan at pagkulog-pagkidlat. Katamtaman hanggang sa malakas na hangin mula sa Timog-kanluran ang iiral at ang Look ng Maynila ay katamtaman hanggang sa maalon. Ang tinatayang agwat ng temperatura ay mula 24 hanggang 30 antas ng Celsius (75°F hanggang 86°F).

Ang Gitna at Katimugang Luzon at ang Kanlurang bahagi ng Hilagang Luzon at ng Kabisayaan ay makakaranas ng maulap na kalangitan na may kalat-kalat na pag-ulan at pagkulog-pagkidlat. Ang natitirang bahagi ng bansa ay magiging bahagya hanggang sa maulap na may pulu-pulong pag-ulan o pagkulog-pagkidlat.

Katamtaman hanggang sa malakas na hangin mula sa Timog-kanluran ang iiral sa Luzon at Kabisayaan at ang mga baybaying-dagat sa mga lugar na ito ay magiging katamtaman hanggang sa maalon. Sa ibang dako ng bansa, ang hangin ay mahina hanggang sa katamtaman mula sa Timog-kanluran hanggang Kanluran na may banayad hanggang sa katamtamang pag-alon ng karagatan maliban na lamang kung may pagkulog-pagkidlat.

Nabanggit mo yang PAGASA, kahapon nanood ako ng news. Hindi accurate ang ibinibigay nilang inpormasyon at wala silang kakayahan na malaman kung ilang volume ng ulan ang ibubuhos. Di kagaya sa South Korea malalaman mo lahat. Isang buwan alam nila kung saang panig uulan at alam nila kung gaano karami. Kaya nakapaghahanda ang tao. Pag ibinalita nila bukas ay uulan sa ganitong lugar sigurado yun. Kaya dapat irehabilitate na yang ahensiyang iyan. Kung totoo yung sinasabi ni cai sa blogs niya na gagastusan ng JICA yan magandang balita yan. Maraming buhay ang maliligtas sapagkat makapaghahanda sa panahon ng mga ulan at bagyo.

Kung sa paghanda sa pagdating ng bagyo laging nakaalerto ang mga taga-isla ng Catanduanes. Bihira ang namamatay kahit halos nilipad na ang buong bahay. Kaya nga tayo binanasagang typhoon capital meron tayong pagawaan tayo lang meron (jok). Ang paghahanda ang importante sa lahat. Kahit anong kalamidad pa man yan. Huwag natin asahan lagi ang gobyerno. Kung tulungan tayo salamat. Kung hindi naman sa susunod wag nang ilagay sa puwesto.

I felt sad while reading this news, sana po habang maaga pa pangalagaan natin ang ating Kalikasan.

Ang bagyong ondoy ay isang halimbawa at hindi inaasahan na aabot sa ganitong pangyayari na malubog ang mga bahay sa baha.
Isipin na lng natin ang mga bahay sa catanduanes ay hindi kasing tibay ng sa Syudad, di ko mawari't maisip kung sa catanduanes ito nangyari. Ano ang aakyatin natin na bubong pag bumaha na kung ang bahay ay isang kubo lng? Saan tayo lilikas kung sakali? Sa tingin nyo ba makakapunta agad ang Red cross sa atin habang nasa kalagitnaan ng disasters? Sa isang tulad nating nasa ISLA himala na lng ang magliligtas sa atin kung sakali. Kaya kayong mga pro-mining isipin nyo po ng mabuti at timbangin ang kahalagahan ng kalikasan sa mga tao at sa ating ISLA.

Sana po kumilos tayo to protect & avoid mining in our Island...

God loves as so much, the father will never abandoned his children specially in times the he needed the. Have love and faith that everything that were goin through will come to an end and there will be a better day for us. Oo nga prayer na lang ang tanging makakaligtas sa ating mga taga-Catanduanes sa mga bagyong darating pa. Tama si amore wala tayong bubungan na puwedeng akyatan sakaling sapitin natin ang nangyayari ngayon sa Metro Manila.

Prayer lang talaga ang panangga niato sa arog kaining kalamidad!
