3 alleged vote-buyers nabbed in Catanduanes

MANILA, Philippines – Three people who claimed to be working for a local candidate were nabbed for alleged vote buying in Catanduanes province, Thursday afternoon.

The military named those arrested as Gretchen Liton, 24, Leslie Liton, 23, and Edgar Tanael, 40.

Major Harold Cabunoc, spokesman of the Philippines Army's 9th Infantry Division, said soldiers from the 83rd Infantry Battalion were on patrol when they chanced upon the suspects in Barangay Quezon, Viga town at 5 p.m. Thursday.

The soldiers allegedly caught the suspects in the act of distributing envelopes containing cash.

Cabunoc said the suspects told the soldiers that they are working for vice gubernatorial candidate Bong Teves.

Army soldiers confiscated from the suspects 729 envelopes each containing P150 cash, totaling to P109,350.

The suspects were detained at the Viga Municipal Police Station for filing of appropriate case.
