Where Are Travelers Heading In 2007?

By Katherine Tom, Senior Editor, Yahoo! Travel
December 20, 2006

Curious where travelers are headed in the coming year? We took a look at the most popular searches on Yahoo! FareChase to see which cities folks are flocking to in 2007. On the domestic list, perennial travel favorite Las Vegas shows no signs of ceding the top spot, while sunny Florida dominates the rest of the list, with five out of the top 10 searches.

We did note a few surprises on the international list, including the appearance of Frankfurt and Manila in the top 5. Visitors rave about Frankfurt's shopping and architecture, while Manila attracts budget travelers looking for beaches and nightlife. Of course, more traditional travel destinations like Paris and Rome made the list as well, placing at 7th and 8th respectively.

Explore Phoenix

Definitely (Phoenix) Arizona would be on the list of Top Domestic Travel Searches. It has been said that going from Phoenix to the Grand Canyon is the scenic equivalent of driving from Mexico to Canada, due to Arizona's dramatic elevation changes. Shortly after leaving Phoenix, our tour passes through Sedona's Red Rock Country and the lush and towering Oak Creek Canyon. From there we plunge through the heart of the largest ponderosa pine forest on Earth and even catch a glimpse of the world famous ''Route 66".
The Phoenix Tour allows guests to see two of Arizona's must see locations in one fully narrated and guided day tour.

silver lining...

some execs at CBRE, a real estate/property development firm, said, if you build it, they will come. so, we just need to get our acts together.

some serious marketing

cai's picture

like what i have told you before, we need some serious marketing done. kasi just last week, i told someone my mom is from catanduanes and that person just told me "catanduanes? san yun?" e minsan nga, nakakapanlumo kasi yung ibang mga taga-satin ayaw na bumalik, ni hindi man lang dalhin mga anak nila or apo nila sa catanduanes. yung isang officemate ko, yung mom niya taga-catanduanes tapos tatay niya taga-albay pero once pa lang siya nakarating sa bicol. ayaw na raw bumalik ng parents niya kasi alam nila mahirap buhay at wala naman "makikita" doon. see? even our own choose to forget us. to put it bluntly, we're not on anybody's map.

I know quite a few who have

I know quite a few who have the same feeling... or to coin your line... those who do not have Catanduanes in their maps.

However, I think even boracay and Mindoro and other out of Manila destinations have experienced the same. But if ever they have reversed that, I think we can also reversed ours.

----

I know, there are so many who is partial if not outright negative on tourism. I can't blame them. You see a lot of haphazzard tourism programs in the past (even presently) that have done lots of damages than development.

So even as we are promoting tourism, let us be wary about what kind of software is laid out for Catanduanes Tourism.

I'm not worried of those sentiments. The measure of success in baking a cake is in the eating.

action plan?

cai's picture

its going to be difficult to come up with an action plan given the present facilities of the province. we first have to make a SWOT analysis tapos we proceed from there. definitely, lalabas dyan yung main constraint natin, which is geographic. i was actually trying to invite my officemates here to come to catanduanes but they were all discouraged by the travel time (if you go via southroad) and the airfare (when you go via asian spirit). kung siguro murahan pa ng asian spirit ang airfare, more people would be encouraged to go....kasi definitely 2,100+ for a one-way ticket is out of an ordinary person's travel budget. di kasi nila maintindihan na its a 45-minute flight and its almost half if not 3/4 of the total cost of the airfaire going to prime destinations such as boracay or cebu or bohol.

Can't believe it is

Dave's picture

Can't believe it is happening! If we are already competing (really winning?) versus Thailand... my, that's good!

Cai, i'd be happy to read here an outline of probable action plan for Catanduanes!

alam mo ba?

cai's picture

alam niyo bang may mga taga-catanduanes na ayaw ng tourism? iniisip nila na masmaganda daw na unknown ang catanduanes dahil ayaw nila maging boracay ito? grabe, napaka-selfish pala ng ibang taga-satin. by saying no to tourism, di nila alam, they are depriving so many other people of a chance to earn a decent living. tsaka parang ayaw gamitin ang utak sa pag-iisip ng paraan na maalagaan ang kalikasan at the same time magkaron ng tourism industry. grabe, na-shock lang ako.
